South Korea’s Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction Co. strengthened strategic ties with American private energy firm Midland Cogen Venture (MCV) in the gas turbine business.
The company announced Wednesday that it signed a memorandum of understanding with MCV to extend cooperation in maintenance and improvement of MCV’s gas turbines, renewable energy sector such as wind power and energy storage system (ESS), hybrid combined-cycle power generation and repowering where Doosan heavy’s gas turbines are applied to existing power plants.
The agreement came after Doosan Turbomachinery Services Inc. (DTS), Doosan Heavy’s U.S. subsidiary, struck a long-term contract with MCV last year to supply core parts of gas turbines. Under the contract, DTS agreed to provide repair and part replacement service for core components of seven gas turbines of MCV’s combined cycle cogeneration plant in Michigan for six years.
“Doosan’s foothold in the U.S. gas turbine aftermarket has been getting stronger following the DTS’ successful part supply agreement with MCV last year,” said Mok Jin-won, head of power service business group of Doosan Heavy.
The power equipment maker has been conducting a state project to build a large-scale gas turbine by implementing research and development in its headquarters in the southern port city Changwon, Florida in the U.S. and Baden in Switzerland. It plans to complete the project within this year after producing a prototype in the second half and carrying out performance test.
