Under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al-Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry and Chairman of Qatar Petroleum (QP), the 3rd Middle East Turbomachinery Symposium (METS 2015) is taking place in Doha. Scheduled for 16-18 February, it features short courses running in conjunction with the event. QP is the event’s Titanium Sponsor and host organization.
The Turbomachinery Laboratory (Turbo Lab) of the Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station (TEES) in College Station, Texas, USA, is organizing the biennial event at the Sheraton Doha. METS 2015 is also supported by Texas A&M University at Qatar and by major sponsors: RasGas Company Limited, Qatargas, and ExxonMobil.
The Symposium began with an Opening Ceremony on 16 February at 08.00 hours. His Excellency, Dr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al-Sada, delivered the keynote address and then led a procession to the formal ribbon cutting and opening of the Exhibit Hall.
Discussions and technical sessions
METS 2015 is an educational forum for turbomachinery engineers with eight discussion groups, 10 tutorials, 12 lectures, and 18 case studies on various topics such as liquefied natural gas (LNG), wet gas, vibration, gas turbines, surge, and cavitation. Technical sessions cover topics on maintenance, design, and troubleshooting as well as short case studies describing in‐the‐field problems and their real‐world solutions.
The technical program was developed and overseen by the METS Technical Advisory Committee, a group of engineers from regional and international companies in the industry. Dr. Dara Childs, Turbo Lab Director, and Mr. Abdulaziz Al‐Naimi, Manager (Joint Interest) at RasGas, are co-chairs of the committee. The full program is available online at http://mets.tamu.edu.
METS 2015 includes an exhibition, hosting booths from over 50 companies from the Middle East, North America, Asia and Europe. The hall is open to the public, free of charge, on the first two days, 10.00-18.00 hours, and on Wednesday, 18 February, 0900 – 1200 hours. It covers developments in turbomachinery technology from international companies.
Registration is available on site at the Sheraton throughout the Symposium.
